Scarf – from the ‘I hear the Music’ series woven in navy blue, fine silk (SOLD)

This scarf is one of 7 scarves in my ‘I Hear the Music’ series of scarves. A fine 100% mulberry silk fibre was hand dyed for both warp and weft prior to the scarf being woven. My I Hear the Music warp was dyed with a combination of a number of blues and fuchsia dye colours. The weft was hand dyed a dark navy blue colour. The ends of the scarf have an elegant twisted fringe finish.
This scarf is woven in twill pattern that produces a series of connected little diamonds alternating with a motif of smaller diamonds across the width of the scarf. On one side of the cloth the diamonds are outlined with the ever changing warp colours and on the other side of the scarf the outline of the diamonds is the darker navy weft. This not-quite-identical sidedness of the cloth produces a visual interest when the scarf is worn. The cloth has a marvelous sheen that is characteristic of silk woven cloth which is further enhanced by the twill lines that are part of the patterning in the scarf.
