This scarf is one of 8 from my ‘Sunset’ series. Six were dyed in the colours of a vibrant sunset on Caribbean waters. The weft is a very fine silk that I hand dyed a dark purple. Both warp and weft fibres were hand dyed prior to the scarf being woven. The ends of the scarf have an elegant twisted fringe finish.
The pattern that this scarf is woven in is sometimes called ‘feathers’ or ‘fern’ pattern because of the woven motif. What I like about the cloth is that one side of the cloth has the warp fibres/colours outlining the feather shape while the inside of the motif is the weft fibre/colour. The other side of the cloth has the reverse – the outline of the feather is the weft colour and the inside is the warp colour. This two-sidedness of the cloth gives a interesting visual effect to the scarf when it is worn.
